Introduction

This is a documentation of my restoration of a US Model B two-stroke Neracar. While there is information on the Neracars made in the UK (see Andy Pugh's inspirational restoration of one at http://bodgesoc.blogspot.com/search/label/Neracar01%20The%20Beginning and Ben Geutsken's wonderfully detailed site at http://www.geutskens.eu/neracar/index.htm) there doesn't seem to be any information on the models made in the US, in Syracuse. One would think that the two models would be the same, but, in fact, there are a surprising number of differences. Enough to inspire me to create this post so that owners of the US model would have a "reference manual" to turn to when restoring one.

My aim here is to provide photos of the US Model B Neracar parts in addition to the drawings in the Spare Parts list. While the drawings are useful, I found that it difficult to interpret how the part actually fitted with other parts, or to see the smaller components from the photocopied pages I was originally working with. Luckily, I managed to get a booklet printed in 1995 by the Neracar museum in Syracuse (actually the Middle Earth Leather Works). The drawings are very clear, and by taking digital copies I was able to see some of the finer details of the parts. I've uploaded this digital copy of the Spare Parts list. However, a caveat: it is not obvious which model this particular catalog applies to; I have a 221cc and the later 255cc engine and there are detail differences between the two. Also, I cannot guarantee that the parts I photographed are original.

I also drew the parts out in Autodesk's Fusion360 CAD program. I have never trained as, nor am I, an engineer. Recreating the Neracar parts in Fusion360 was my way of learning how to use the program. I crave indulgences from any professional draftsman or engineer looking at my parts drawings.

This is a work in progress, fighting for time with various other projects. I have started with the engine; other components will follow as time allows. I would love it if readers provide any additional or missing information, or clearer and more complete photos of the parts, along with any data on the model it came from.

Finally, my notes of the restoration are purely mine, mistakes, omissions and all. Again, readers are encouraged to send corrections, better ways of doing things, and photos of their restoration.
